Looking for God
Category: Intentional Awareness of God's Presence
People often wonder, “Where is God in my life?” Daily struggles, big and small,
sometimes lead us to think that God is absent, and it’s also difficult to imagine that God concerns himself with our mundane day to day activities.
But God is NEVER absent. He is always with us. We just have to know how to look for him.
From January through May 2011, WordServe Church is working toward the goal of becoming more aware of God’s presence in our lives. We are asking ourselves, “Where have I seen God today?” and “Where do I need to find God today?” We are practicing disciplines like worship, studying Scripture, praying, fasting, and serving others. We are asking God to show himself to us, in the big things and the small things. We are listening for his still, small voice.
Is it working? See for yourself. Here are some ways we have seen God at work so far this year:
"I felt content one day this week for the first time in years."
"I saw God at work in this sermon. After lying awake for hours last night thinking about opposition, these reminders from Nehemiah have given me fresh hope! Thank you!"
"God was at work in the teenagers who got up early on Saturday morning to come out and serve their neighbors."
"The guy that cut me off on the freeway - that was God saying 'slow down!'"
"God reminded me of Psalm 19:14 at the very moment I needed it."

MORE RESOURCES:
We want to help you become more aware of God in your life. Here are some tools to help you get started.
1. Take an inventory. How aware of God are you right now? How aware do you want to be? Take this survey to see where you are in your awareness of God. (WordServe Church averaged a C+ on this survey at the beginning of the year. Our goal is to raise that grade to a B+ by the end of May!)
2. Daily awareness. Make your own dry-erase board to hang on your refrigerator and record ways you and your family have seen God at work each day. Just download this pdf and take it to Kinkos and laminate it--voila! You've got your own dry erase board!
3. Listen. Sunday's messages are always uploaded on our website, and you can listen to sermons specifically designed to help you become more aware of God's presence. Here are a couple to get you started: Listening to God in Prayer, and The Importance of Remembering.
4. Read. Robert Mulholland's Shaped by the Word and Richard Foster's Prayer are great resources.
5. Learn More. Visit our Spiritual Practices page. You'll learn more about different types of prayer, focused Scripture study, and fasting, as well as techniques to help you get started.
6. Serve. We have found more and more people telling us that they are most aware of God when they are serving others. WordServe always has serving opportunities available, whether it's a Saturday morning service project in the community, serving at WordServe on a Sunday morning, a mission trip, or even a Community Group getting together to serve a neighbor.
