Barbara Pennington, WordServe Kids Director
Barbara believes that children shape the future of the church. Today’s children will be tomorrow's leaders. She believes that this requires a strong foundation in Christian faith.
Barbara grew up in Lovington, NM and completed her education at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. Graduating with a BS in Elementary Education and a math minor, she continued on to teach 4th grade. She taught 4th grade for five years, three in Splendora and two in Katy at Mayde Creek Elementary, before deciding to stay home with her daughters. While staying home and caring for children in her home, she found Holy Covenant UMC. There she soon began teaching Sunday school, then helping direct VBS and was blessed to be hired as the Children’s Assistant. During the past 13 years as the Assistant, Barbara also spent 7 years in various lead teacher positions at Holy Covenant’s Child Development Center. For the past 5 years, she has spent some time at Tri-District summer camp in Lakeview (Palestine, TX) serving as an Elementary Director.
