Habitat for Huggins
How It All Started
In December 2013, WordServe was contacted through our adopted school, Huggins Elementary, about a family in need of major home repairs. The family had eight children, four of whom attended Huggins. After meeting with school leaders, counselors, and other city officials, WordServe decided to commit to rebuild this house and make all the necessary repairs so that the family could return to their home.
After an entire year of prayers, love and hard work the house was occupied. Move-in day was described as “Simply AMAZING. Holy. Truly beyond words.” Thank you to everyone that had a hand in this transformation, you have truly done God’s work. Since 2013, WordServe Church has complete two Habitat for Huggins houses.
Check out these videos from our first two houses and prepare to be moved and motivated by how God can make life different!

House #3 Coming Soon!
We have begun the rebuild of our third home, this time in partnership with Zion Chapel Baptist Church. This opportunity is unique in that the property has multiple homes and generations of the family. The house we are looking to rebuild is owned by the grandparents, who are cared for by one of their daughters. She also lives on the property and is the care taker of many! More than 12 students ranging from pre-K to high school live on the property with their families and would be impacted by the rebuild of this home. Both grandparents are disabled and the home would be designed to fit their needs. We are excited to serve this multi-generational close knit family. We envision a home that is not only safe, protected from the elements and has reliable plumbing but one for family dinners, homework time, and many celebrations to come! It is our hope that many different organizations in the community will play a role in bringing this home to completion. We know it will take skilled workers for much of the construction, but it will also take people willing to serve through clean-up, painting, prayer, food for the workers, and in any other way that God might lead someone to serve. We anticipate many volunteer opportunities early next year. However, to get us off the ground, we are looking for donations, both monetary and construction materials.
