The Cost
Preacher: Bill Hogan Series: Altar'd Topic: Biblical Scripture: 1 Chronicles 21:18–26
Small Group Discussion Guide: "At What Cost?"
Icebreaker Question:
What's something in your life that became more meaningful because it cost you something (time, money, or
energy)?
Read Together:
1 Chronicles 21:18-26
Discussion Questions:
1. Why do you think David refused to offer a sacrifice that cost him nothing? What does this reveal about his
relationship with God?
2. Where in your own life are you tempted to 'worship cheaply' or conveniently?
3. The sermon mentioned a study about wine: same product, different price tag-yet people thought the
expensive one tasted better. Why do you think we tie value to cost? How does that principle apply to our
spiritual lives?
4. What are some modern examples of 'costly worship'? What's a sacrifice that stretches you in your walk
with God?
5. 'You can have easy, or you can have holy-but you can't have both.' What's one area where God may be
calling you deeper-even if it's not easy?
Challenge for the Week:
Choose one small act of costly worship this week-something that pushes past convenience. It could be
generosity, serving someone difficult, or showing up faithfully when it's hard. Share your experience at your
next meeting.
