What is Compassion?

Chris Roberts Living Water Trip Chris with wheelbarrowThe people of WordServe know that God has called us beyond the walls of the church—to serve the overlooked, the forgotten, the marginalized, the unloved.

That’s where Compassion comes in. Our Compassion opportunities are chances for you to put your faith into action and joyfully care for the needs of the greater Fulshear community and the world.

Compassion is a tangible way to shine light into the dark places of the world, but it’s also a way to allow yourself to be transformed. In other words, Compassion isn't only about meeting the needs of others, it's about meeting Christ in the people we serve, recognizing our own need for him, and letting that encounter make our lives different.

Over and over again, we hear some of our most amazing stories from people who have experienced God in powerful ways during a Compassion project.

At WordServe, there are always opportunities to serve others, whether it’s participating in one of our local compassion projects, helping in one of our ministry areas inside the church, or committing to a longer-term Compassion trip (at home or abroad). Check WordServe's calendar for more information about upcoming opportunities to serve.

Our dream is that WordServe would be known as the church that is always serving other people and showing them God’s love through tangible actions. It is our hope that our Compassion projects will enable you to take a risk beyond your comfort zone, to reach out to people in need, to allow God to reach deeply into your own life, and, ultimately, to reach the ends of the earth with the transforming love of Jesus.
